If I Knew Then

If I Knew Then
by: J Edward Knox

If I knew then what I know now,
All the mistakes I could avoid.
Regrets and tears a thing of the past.
I'd be a liar if I said I'd not toyed,
With the dream of possibilities so vast.
If only it were true somehow...

If I knew then what I know now,
All the friends left behind still here.
Harsh words left silent and unsaid.
Leaving places without any lingering fear,
That relationships lay stagnant and dead.
If only it were true somehow...

If I knew then what I know now,
I'd likely make very different decisions.
For better or worse who can say?
Life might not be left without revisions.
Turns I never made could create a new day.
Not sure I want to take this vow...

If I knew then what I know now,
Not sure what would change or remain the same,
If the ones I love would still remain.
The best things in life aren't that tame.
To keep "then" but lose "now" is vicious pain.
Not sure I want to take this vow...

If I knew then what I know now,
Lips of honey from memories haunting kiss.
Too much a threat of what's on the line.
The cost of this fantastical bliss,
Darkens the hope that from it may shine.
This reality cannot receive my bow...

If I knew then what I know now,
I'd not become the man I am.
Take life as it comes with lessons learned.
Fantasies of what might be are a sham.
Memories are pictures best not burned.
This reality cannot receive my bow...

If I knew then what I know now...

  1. It's a beautiful poem.

Perhaps we all go through " then " , we learn from our mistakes or setbacks, then grow up to become " now "

Our savior Jesus offered his life to us. We may live freely now without bondages.
